Anemia

CKD Can Cause Anemia

Anemia

Anemia is a condition where you don’t have enough red blood cells
to carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.

‘Erythropoietin’ helps young red blood cells mature:

–  Erythropoietin is a hormone produced by the kidney that facilitates red blood cell maturation within the bone marrow. CKD patients don’t produce enough of this hormone and therefore are often anemic.

–  The good news is that a synthetic version of erythropoietin can be injected IV or subcutaneously under your skin. This helps to achieve a normal hemoglobin level. Treating anemia will greatly improve quality of life! One can look forward to improved sleep, mental clarity and good exercise stamina.
